Strengthening cyber resilience in SMEs to protect confidential business data and personal data

On 4 June 2024, the Cyber Security Council (CSR) emphasized in an advisory report that the cyber resilience of SMEs needs to be significantly improved. In the report, the CSR explains to the cabinet that SME businesses are often vulnerable to cyberattacks. This is partly because they often have more limited resources for proper security measures. The right security can prevent all kinds of trade secrets from being exposed.

That is why the CSR calls for a coordinated approach, in which governments, businesses, and knowledge institutions work together to improve digital security in the SME sector. Think of awareness campaigns, targeted subsidies, and sharing “best practices”.

In short, SMEs cannot afford to lag behind in the digital transition currently underway. If cyber threats are not properly addressed, serious economic damage and reputational loss can result. It is therefore important to get sound advice on cybersecurity.

De afgelopen jaren stonden in het teken van de Wet VBAR, het wetsvoorstel dat een einde moest maken aan onduidelijkheid over de zzp’er. Het kabinet heeft delen van dat voorstel inmiddels geschrapt. De Belastingdienst handhaaft sinds 1 januari 2025 weer actief op schijnzelfstandigheid. En recente uitspraken van de Hoge Raad bevestigen dat rechters strikt toetsen of er sprake is van ondergeschiktheid en gezagsverhouding.

Voor uw praktijk betekent dit drie dingen. Een: leg de samenwerking duidelijk vast, met aandacht voor de inhoud. Twee: voorkom dat een zzp’er feitelijk werkt als werknemer. Drie: wees voorbereid op een controle, en weet hoe u de relatie kunt herzien als dat moet.
